High School Aftermath

I believe the high school system is corrupt. High schools vary across the country in terms of the students and the administration. In Half Moon Bay it is more of a system where they're trying to flood the kids out to just be able to graduate and walk at the end of the year with a diploma. It is more pushing kids through the system where it isn't difficult to fall through the cracks. Meanwhile, over the hill it is a totally different game. Kids are looked at by their GPA and the amount of AP and honors courses they have taken. What really determines if a kid is smart?

Personally, I have never been an over achiever throughout school. I do what I can to get my 3.0 and I am content with that. I am not saying this is a good thing to settle the way I do, but does this mean I'm not smart? I don't believe school is for everyone, so what happens to the large percent of kids that don't learn in a classroom setting or their interests are not met in school? My best friend is one of the smartest guys I know but he never graduated high school, he is automatically labeled as a failure or a loser even when that is far from the truth. It's very uncommon for their to be educational freedom in this type of system. I don't have a solution to this problem and I'm not saying there is one.

It is so commonly believed that school is the only place where you are able to learn and be intelligent. Kids will learn best when they're passionate about something. I believe there is a place to learn for everyone. If everybody was good at school this world would not spin. It we all went to Stanford, then who would drive the school buses, be our firemen, or build our million dollar houses in Los Altos. I am just saying high schoolers need to know and respect one another for the different paths we will all go down after this year. Variety is the spice of life!
