Money and Fame makes a Difference.
The OJ case is an interesting case due to how the legal system works. Besides the fact that the evidence presented in court was not accurate to believe, the fact that OJ Simpson is a famous NFL former player, his fame got in the way on how the trial ran. His money and fame were factors to why he wasn't found guilty. OJ had the money to hire good lawyers and investigators, while most people cant do to fully defend themselves in court. OJ was seen like an Angel and superstar who could not do any harm, it created range between the common people, white people, and the fans who believed the prosecutors were using the race card. If OJ was an ordinary man from a low income or minorities, he would have had a different experience due to lack of money to have the resources to prove innocence.

I completely agree with you Ana. I wrote my position paper on these factors as well. I believe that if OJ Simpson was not a socialite he would have been rightfully charged with the murder of Nicole Brown-Simpson and Ron Goldman. He had the means to hire an entire team of personal investigators and expensive lawyers. Without his fame OJ would have been found guilty in the first trial.
ReplyDeleteI also concur with your analysis, and I too wrote my position paper on a few of these factors. O.J.'s fame and fortune certainly influenced the outcome of the crime, and even worse, the judge allowed it to be a media circus! He had the capability to form a legal team of some of the best and most renowned lawyers money could buy, and incompetence by the prosecution only helped his case. These factors paired with his outgoing personality and movie-star attitude, only created a storm of confusion and disgrace.
ReplyDeleteI additionally would like to agree with your conclusion, Ana! I wrote about this, as well, in my position paper about how wealth and status definitely had a huge role into the case of O.J. Simpson. Similarly so, my belief went with the ideology that if it wasn't for his money and fame, Simpson would have definitely already been behind bars a long time before this case spun out of control.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you Ana OJ was seen as a superstar and he was wealthy which are factors of why he was not found guilty. His wealth allowed him to hire the best lawyers to defend him this gave him an advantage. Money can buy someone freedom.
