SF shooting

While strolling through my Instagram timeline, I saw several videos pop up about the recent shooting in San Francisco involving police. It showed, what looked to be, about 8 police officers surrounding an African American civilian who looked to be a young adult (discovered to be 26 years old). All you could see in the video is all of the police officers with their guns pulled out and the man simply walking away, limping, and the next thing you see is the phone moving, then gunshots being fired by 5 of the police officers. I almost feel like it was bound to happen around our area, however it was shocking to see since it was so recent and it was in our home, the San Francisco Bay Area. Although I'm not yet aware of the entire incident, I found this crazy because the man looked as if he did nothing wrong to be shot at the time that he did, but there was no evidence of anything happening to lead to 5 of the officers shooting. I think it was unnecessary to kill the man when he didn't charge towards the officers, nor looked like he was threatening anyone; he was limping away. I've seen a little bit of the news, and many San Francisco citizens are enraged about the incident, and, to me,  the video's leaked give them a good reason to be.

  1. I saw this too and It was very shocking that it happened around our area. I always see it happen around other places but never would imagine it being there. Its absurd that 5 cops surrounding a man, who (like you said) didn't look threatening to the cops.

  2. I have also heard of this, and I can say this is nothing short of tragic. The fact that excessive force had been used to close to our community is appalling. It is hard to imagine something like this could have happened so close to us, especially in such a diverse place as San Francisco. I guess it just goes to show that hate and despair can exist anywhere in society

  3. The news revealed that he was carrying a knife and when they asked him to back down he continued to walk towards the officers. Although I do believe they used excessive force, this was completely avoidable. If the individual simply surrendered, none of this would have happened and he would still be alive.

    1. If the police knew how to properly put their training into action it also could have been avoidable. How many police shot at that man? I saw the video and I heard NUMEROUS guns shots. There were about 8 police men there, none of them had pepper spray or a taser? Let's not blame the victim. If the police would have simply done just about anything else than shoot him a few dozen times that man would still be alive.
Also, I am not sure what the rules are in SF but it is not illegal to carry around a knife as long as the blade is not longer than the palm of your hand.
