Placebo Effect
The Placebo effect is when a patient receives medication from a trusted doctor or medical expert and told that the medication will help heal them from the illness that they have. However in reality the medication given is useless and doesn't help at all with the illness whatsoever. However what is baffling is that there is a high percentage of patients that undergo the placebo effect that actually heal quickly when taking these "medications". I thought this was fascinating. Does the human mind really have the power to heal the body physically if it is under the impression it is being helped and will get better soon? This is still a great mystery in the scientific world as to why the Placebo Effect even works at all.

I thought you raised some great questions in this Raphael. I wonder if there's a solution to this instead of the medication that seems useless.
ReplyDeleteI think its crazy how this is the case because I feel like so many things are all a mind game and all in the way you perceive health, happiness, and taking care of yourself. I think a lot of the medication we take only works because we are believing that it is working when in reality it could be doing as little as a placebo.
ReplyDeleteAdditionally, studies have proven that placebo's still work even if the patient is told that the placebo is a placebo. The patients are told that the placebo will make them feel better. So, a lot of it may be in people trusting medicine to make them feel better. Maybe people don't know the word placebo though...
