Zika in the US

According to CNN, the number of pregnant women with Zika virus in the United States has more than tripled. It has skyrocketed from 48 cases to more than 147. All of us have been hearing about the virus in foreign country but now it has reached our own. Zika can lead to serious birth defects, such as the most well known microcephaly, which is the abnormally small head size relative to normal healthy babies. Although a majority of these women contracted the virus outside of the US, this could be come very dangerous to other US citizens.

  1. Wow, that is really shocking to know Avery. I can imagine that airport security is definitely going to get more strict in the next few months to come. Even during winter break when I traveled out of the country, the TSA were extremely careful about who was sick and such. My brother was bitten by a normal mosquitoes on his arms, and he was pulled aside for question because they thought he might have been carrying the virus.

  2. This freaks me out because they barely know anything about zika so far or how dangerous it actually is. They don't know how it affects people that aren't pregnant in the future and it's scary.

  3. Viruses where there are little to no research on the exact effects are so scary-it should be a top priority of our country to learn how to deal with this virus.
