After Beyonce's amazing political performance at the super bowl, she received a lot of negative reactions from anyone who watched the halftime show. Some people criticized her for bringing race into a football game and even went as far as comparing the Black Panther Party to the KKK. Although there is some aspect of race in the Black Panther Party, the main reason for the creation of this party was to fight for their equality. The Black Panther Party was not secluded for only black people. They stood for and encouraged "power to the PEOPLE". All people. The KKK was strictly for white people and terrorized anyone who wasn't. The comparison between the KKK and the Black Panther Party is just absurd. Both parties are two very different organizations whose beliefs were also very different. The Black Panther Party was created to protect black communities from the constant oppression and injustice they faced on a daily basis brought on BY THE KKK. And you know what, without the Black Panther Party, without the civil rights movement football would be a whole different ball game. Players like Cam Newton or Marshawn Lynch, Russell Wilson, Kordell Stewart, OJ Simpson, Adrian Peterson, Michael Vick and so many more made the game that you love today the way it is.

Good blog Lauren. I personally really enjoyed the halftime preformance and the message that was portrayed. I can't believe that people would even think to compare the Black Panthers to the KKK. How could a person ever say or think something like that when they can never personally put themselves through what black people in America went/go through.
ReplyDeleteWith that, people who hate on Black History Month as well as the Black Panthers, and those other movements, could have potentially been avoided if there weren't white supremist groups like the KKK. If black people weren't oppressed from the get go, like most movements of groups of oppressed people, these scenarios wouldn't even exist.
Black history is a big part of American history, those who hate on it choose to deny reality and need to do some research before they give their uneducated/disrespectful opinions.
I couldn't believe how people were so negative about the performance because I personally enjoyed it too! I thought the message was great and I feel like those people that didn't like it don't understand that race was a big deal in football when the game first started, so her performance was appropriate, in my opinion. Also, the fact that they had the crowd hold up signs making the "Believe in Love" message to the entire nation made a huge statement about the halftime show as well. I just don't understand why people would be so negative and mad about the performance. Beyonce slayed.
ReplyDeleteIt just disgusts why anyone would be upset about people empowering themselves and their culture. Let's face it, no one encourages or represents the black culture or people other than black people so if you won't represent, then let Beyonce just do her thing and empower her people.
