In econ, we watched a video about a college football coach who's team got a sponsorship deal from Nike. He refused to where the brand because he disagreed with the working conditions at it's factories abroad. He visited a slum in Indonesia just outside of a Nike factory. The workers are living under the poverty line. The children cannot go to school. The workers are payed little to nothing. They have to work over the normal hours to get a decent pay just enough to survive. Everyone is inhaling chemicals used to make the shoes. According to many workers, their bosses are harsh and stressful. These factories offer horrible working conditions. Nike corporate refused to speak on the issue. The CEO just waived the subject aside. These big companies either don't care or just won't believe it until they see it first hand onsite.
Nike is still very popular. But if you saw these conditions, would you still buy Nike products? Do you think America cares? Give me your thoughts.
