The E-personality
The word e-personality is a phrase that means to become a new person on the internet. It is a similar image of oneself however it is not completely the same. In the book "Virtually You" by Doctor Elias Aboujaoude he points out the social changes that the internet has created for everyone around the world. His view is biased however focusing more on how the internet has its disadvantages. He works at a clinic where many different types of patients come in with their problems concerning the iternet. What he has seen that comes up very often is the fact that people will lie about many different things just to make themselves look better

I have heard of this before, especially on dating sites. I wonder how common it is and where else (besides dating sites) it can be seen. This kind of reminds me of that one psychology experiment we learned about how children wearing costumes were more likely to be mean to other children because their identity was concealed. Whereas those children that were not in costumes did not act in the same way because they could be identified. I wonder if people on the internet are willing to lie about who they are because they know that no one will find out. Also, how does e-personality affect business, relationships, or maybe even credibility of the site?
ReplyDeleteThe internet is a mask for people on the internet. I find the internet as a good/evil thing that people take advantage of because people don't think of the consequences that come from it. How does the internet effect people today? Would it be more positive or negative?
