The Hunting Ground
This documentary was very emotional and caught my attention. It was ridiculous how people at these high standard colleges/universities were doing nothing about these victims being raped. They discouraged them from reporting their rape because it would effect the schools reputation. I feel like this is why guys felt so comfortable raping these girls because they know there will most likely not be any punishment. If there was a punishment it would discourage most guys from committing this horrible crime. For example, Erica Kinsman said she was raped by football player Jameis Winston before he was the star of the team. She reported it and did the rape kit, which is checking for DNA. The authorities did not follow procedures and did nothing for a year. When the rape accusation later came out, he was already really well known and she was getting blamed for her rape. She was being threatened/harassed for "lying" and people thought she was "seeking attention" because Jameis was so popular. So if colleges/police actually caught these rapist and gave them some form of punishment for there actions there would be less victims of rape.

I agree, it is totally absurd that these perpetrators are getting away with rape. It doesn't make any sense in my mind. If these universities are so strict in the admissions process- viewing your social media activity, police records, behavioral records- WHY is it okay for students to make bad choices when they are students at these schools? It makes NO sense. I mean I guess if the rapist is an athlete and is bringing in large sums of money, I see their motive (not saying this is ok in any shape or form!!), however that is another matter that is completely disgusting to me. Regardless whether the student it an athlete or not, they should be punished for their actions. Yes, schools do not want to be distinguished as a "rape school," but I think the only way to avoid this is to come out and say what everyone is thinking.. (pretty much) EVERY school is a rape school. Instead of trying to hide this problem, we need to take action to stop it. If I were sending my child off to college, I would rather send them to a "rape school" because at least this school is doing something about the issue, instead of hiding it. Also, I find it so wrong that these schools blame the victim. Makes me sick.
