"Participation Trophies" Reaction

This documentary reminded me of the time when I used to play volleyball as a kid. We were given participation medals at the end of the season. I played volleyball for about 3 years, and at first, I was excited to get the medals but as time continued on, I felt like it wasn't fair, not only to me but to the other players and teams who worked harder and played better. I do think that there are very good benefits to participation trophies, especially for kids who have disabilities of any kind. It helps them feel like they belong in the team and feel like they are like the rest of the others. But also like Trevor and Mr. Myers mentioned, participation trophies can be distracting and hinder progress as the players become older. They need to work hard to win and to be rewarded, rather than to expect if they show up, they'll get something. I think this documentary was great. I could really make some personal connections to it.
