Teen Domestic Violence

So far, watching everybody's senior project and focusing on the topic each person has devoted themselves towards studying and analyzing for basically the entire year has been very insightful. It has made me realize that I am not alone and that many of us do not have it together. It has made me realize that everybody, even the people you least think, has a story. We have hit topics that students have been very passionate about; enough to bring attention to it and teach others through their own personal experiences. One topic that sparked my curiosity and a lot of my attention was the subject of Teen Domestic Abuse and Violence. I feel as if this is a topic that is, unfortunately, not talked about as much and fails to have light shed upon it, despite how serious of a situation it is, I believe that there should definitely be more talk about it. This topic opened up my mind about the possibilities of domestic abuse...what leads for people to hurt their significant others in such way? Why? How? How do we, also, allow ourselves to be hurt by those who "love" us? What drives this? From personal experience, I am familiar with loved ones who have gone through domestic abuse in their relationships and from the insight I've gathered from talking to them, it is not as simple and easy as it may seem to drop the relationship or get help until the abuse has reached an extreme extent. It is not an easy process and many times, people find it hard to do anything at all no matter how dangerous it gets. This is why I continue to believe that our society should shed more light into this topic.
