Sexual harrasment/rape in universities

This is sort of a reaction to the documentary we are viewing in 2nd period small group.
So far the statistics and the raw facts surprise me each time I view the documentary. For example when they showed a few universities along with their rape or harassment stats and then the number of suspensions. Some had literally zero suspensions or expulsions. They care so much about their reputation that they force themselves to go the opposite and accuse the student and wave the problem away even though the problem is so common. I congratulate that one university that wrote a letter advising student not to house in a certain fraternity. In the end it's all about money and the good looks of the university. It's absurd and we all know it. Lady's and gentlemen welcome to our screwed up system of doing what it takes to get money. Morally or immorally, it doesn't matter. Looks like it  will not change anytime soon either.  I feel like if all schools posted their actual stats then people could compare as well as get the students to be aware about how to keep themselves safe. They could also prove that their expulsion policies are followed and work in order to reassure the students and parents.

  1. I totally agree with the fact that the statistics are shocking and that nothing is being done for the victims but what do you think anyone can do? Universities have a lot of money, and a lot of power, it's almost like playing cat and mouse to get justice for the victim. My class discussed the mattress project, where rape victims carried their mattresses around all day just to piss off administrators and they didn't really seem to care. I still wonder what would need to happen to make universities acknowledge this problem.
